On Friday 27th October the maternity team at St. Peter’s Hospital welcomed Gill Walton, recently appointed as the new Chief Executive and General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwifes (RCM).
Gill is one of the country’s leading midwives and prior to her RCM appointment held the post of Director of Midwifery and Maternity Services at Portsmouth Hospitals. She has been at the forefront of many national maternity related projects and chose to visit Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals to hear about recent developments in the unit.
She met local RCM Branch Steward – Midwife Nadia Pridmore – who was appointed last year and has worked hard to raise the profile of the RCM at the Trust. Gill also heard about the Trust’s commitment to the RCM ‘Caring for You’ Charter, signed by Divisional Chief Midwife Jane Urben last year, as a promise to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of her team of midwives, student midwives and maternity assistants at work. Gill said that she enjoyed her visit and the opportunity to chat to members of the Ashford and St. Peter’s team.
